Firepit Area

If you’re looking for a way to get use out of your patio area all year round without needing to change anything then this idea is ideal. Grab yourself a new firepit, some chairs and maybe some plants and outdoor hanging lights to create a cosy outdoor space.

This would be perfect for late summer evenings or colder autumn days, you’ll be able to light your fire pit and talk to others around you with the warmth rising.

Seating Area

After a long day, there’s nothing nicer than being able to enjoy some much needed time out. Why not enhance this time by creating a seating area on your patio, you could add a table and an outdoor sofa and give yourself a nice space where you can soak up the sun or enjoy the cool autumn air.

This could also be a great space to sit with friends or family when they visit, you could grab some drinks and sit and talk into the evening.

TIP: Why not take it a step further and ban phones and technology! This is a great way to calm down and really be present and in the moment. marble table with plant pot

Dining Area

If family time is what you value, then an outdoor dining area is a great idea. During the summer evenings after work and after the kids are home from school, you could have dinner outside and then let yourself and your family get some much-needed air after being cooped up indoors all day.

It could also be a good idea to ban technology if this is your preferred idea too. In a world overrun by technology, some time away from screens and out in the fresh air can only benefit.vegetable kebabs on portable bbq

Outdoor Kitchen

If you’re someone who enjoys hosting and having large gatherings, then this idea is perfect. An outdoor kitchen is a great way to add more to an outdoor BBQ! You could even add a pizza oven and learn how to use one, there are some great tips online where you can learn how to cook in a pizza oven.

This idea could be easily paired with the one above. Add a dining area to your outdoor kitchen and give your family or guests a space to eat and bond with each other. They can also marvel at your great cooking skills! stars in purple sky

Stargazing Area

There’s nothing more magical than taking in the wonders of the universe. You could use your patio area as a stargazing area. Buy yourself a new telescope, add some comfy chairs and tables and enjoy the crisp night air as you venture up into the unknown.

If you’ve got young kids, this would also be a great way to teach them about stars, the solar system and get them excited about doing something different, all from the comfort of your own home. You could even learn a thing or two yourself about the solar system!

Relaxation Corner

Our last idea is one for those who love nothing more than to be alone after a long and busy day. You could use your new patio area to create a relaxation corner, you could use this space read, draw or even take up a new hobby. This would be a great chance to allow yourself to unwind.

To achieve this, add in a table and chairs or sofa and table to give yourself somewhere comfy to sit. Dedicate your time here to learn something new and unwind after a long day.

Different Types Of Patios

If you're yet to have a patio added to your garden then you might be considering several options for the foundation. We’re here to give you a helping hand and assist you when deciding on your foundation.

Concrete Patio

This is a very common type of patio. Concrete is simple to install, easy to furnish and most homes already have concrete somewhere in the garden. There is also very little design choice when it comes to concrete since you don’t have various patterns or colours to choose from. This can be easily installed yourself and there are some great guides online for laying concrete from home

Courtyard Garden

These types of patio areas are perfect for those who are overlooked or in a residential area. These tend to be smaller spaces, often in the shade and tend to have very little surrounding grass. These normally already come with homes but you can easily create this using paving slabs and some potted plants.

Modern Patios

Modern Patios are very popular. They’re often laid with paving slabs or decking and they’re designed and decorated using comfy outdoor seating and neutral colours. A great addition to this design is painting some white walls or fencing. With all of these backyard patio ideas, you'll be spoilt for choice!

TIP: Add some pop of bright colours with outdoor string lights!
