September is the perfect time to grow new crops and tidy up the garden, so grab yourself some gardening tools because below, we have all of the tips and tricks you’re going to need this September!
Spring - Now is the time to pre-plan for spring. Plant your favourite spring flowers and get them ready for the early months next year.
Autumn - Try filling any garden gaps with autumnal colours, flowers in orange, red and yellow and why not throw in the odd pumpkin?!
Baskets - Dead head, prune and feed any hanging baskets you have. These often last until the first frosts arrive, so it’s worth looking after them for a couple more months of colour.

Pond - If you have a pond, now is the time to cover it with netting to prevent falling leaves from getting in.
Garden furniture - Unless the weather forecast for September is good, this is (very sadly!) the time to pack up garden furniture and the barbecue, to cover and store until next summer.
Vegetable patch - If you are lucky enough to have a vegetable patch, now is the time to give it a general tidy-up before autumn arrives. Remove old crops from the patch and clear away weeds.
Crops - Continue to harvest crops and find new ways to store them to get the most out of your harvest. Many crops can be frozen, dried or pickled, allowing you to use them weeks after they have been picked.
Lawn - If you’ve been thinking of creating an entirely new lawn, now is a good time to do it. The autumn weather is ideal for establishing a lawn.
Weeds - Tidy up the lawn by mowing and digging up any weeds. With the lawn mower unplugged (and only if you are confident in doing so), raise the height of your mower blades now, as the grass growth rate slows down at this time of year.
That’s it, they’re out tips and tricks for gardening this September!
